A paid apprenticeship with East Coast Apprenticeships gives you the opportunity to earn an income whilst you work your way towards completing a nationally recognised qualification (generally at a  Certificate III level or above)

Work while you study 

East Coast Apprenticeships combines both theory and practical on-site skills learning. Our approach is to directly employ potential apprentices such as yourself by placing you with ‘Host Employers’ which are usually local, small to medium sized businesses. You will work and train under the supervision of an experienced tradesperson upon placement with a Host Employer.  This combined approach ensures a well-rounded apprenticeship experience that prepares you for a successful career in your desired trade

Wages

Whilst you are working on-site, you will earn an hourly wage. Your wages will depend on several factors, such as your age and your level of education. Your wages may increase with each completed year of your apprenticeship.

Work hours 

As an apprentice, the number of hours you can expect to work per week can vary depending on the specific apprenticeship and the requirements of your host employer. In most cases, apprenticeships involve full-time work, which typically amounts to around 38 to 40 hours per week.

However, there are also part-time and school-based apprenticeship delivery modes, where the weekly working hours may be reduced. The exact hours will depend on the arrangement between you, your host employer, and the apprenticeship program.

Study hours

In addition to your paid practical work, you will need to attend classroom lessons for 1 or 2 week periods 2-3 times throughout the year. These lessons will take place at one of our recommended/approved Supervising Registered Training Organisations (SRTOs). SRTOs can include TAFE colleges and institutes, adult and community education providers as well as other relevant industry organisations. 

Successfully passing these theory modules is necessary to obtain your apprenticeship qualification.

The team at East Coast will help you coordinate your training schedule and monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship. This approach ensures that you receive the necessary guidance and resources to excel in your chosen trade.

Duration

The duration of an apprenticeship can vary depending on various factors, including the type of apprenticeship, the level of qualification, and the specific industry requirements. In general, traineeships typically take 3 – 4 years. Duration differences arise when considering full-time, part-time, and school-based apprenticeships.

Enrolment costs 

There are no costs involved in being employed as an East Coast apprentice – instead you get paid for your on-site work.

Student fees may apply for the enrolment in the necessary theory modules and to attend classes at your designated SRTO. However, upon successful completion of these modules, you will be fully reimbursed for all fees.

Enrolment criteria

There are different criteria between different apprenticeships, so please check the details of your preferred apprenticeship. Sound literacy and numeracy skills are usually a minimum requirement. 

For all apprenticeships, you must be an Australian citizen/resident or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia for the duration of the apprenticeship.
